IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

Q: My children are fussy about what they wear. Will they wear the Safety Turtle wristband?
A: The wristband is designed to appeal to children. Make it fun for your little one to wear their coloured “Turtle watch”. Feedback from parents indicates overwhelmingly that children enjoy wearing the Turtle wristband.

Q: Can my child remove the Safety Turtle Wristband?
A: No. The Wristband is locked into position on the child’s wrist by means of a hexagonal key that is provided. Just line up the dots, lock the buckle, give a little tug to test that it is secure – and then keep the key in a safe place out of reach of children.

Q: From what age should my child start wearing a Safety Turtle Wristband?
A: From the moment that your child becomes mobile! And continue up until he or she has learnt to swim strongly. The Wristband is adjustable and fits all ages from a crawling baby to an adult.

Q: Can I attach the Turtle Wristband to my daughter’s ankle rather than her wrist, as she likes to splash her hands in water?
A: Not recommended. A child is best protected with the Turtle locked on the Wrist, not attached to any other part of his/her anatomy or clothing. Reasons: (i) child cannot remove the Turtle sensor (ii) alarm can occur when child reaches into pool, before falling in (iii) hand tends to remain near surface after child falls in, providing stronger signal to Base Station.

Q: How can I trust the battery in the Safety Turtle wristband?
A: If the battery in the Safety Turtle wristband is running low, the Base Station will alert you with a special warning alarm. The sealed, tamper-proof battery inside the rugged Turtle “shell” has a life of ± three years. It is advisable to test the Set in Test Mode on a regular basis – it only takes a few seconds to do so.

Q: Can the Safety Turtle base station operate in areas where no electrical socket is at hand?
A: Yes. Your Base Station will, however, require a Turtle Power battery pack (available as an optional extra from your dealer or agent). The battery pack allows you to take your Safety Turtle system anywhere. For safety reasons, the Base Station does not accommodate generic batteries.

Q: Can one Base Station cover two or more children?
A: Yes, provided they are wearing Turtles of the same colour.

Q: May each of my children have a different colour Turtle?
A: No. A Base Station is set to respond to Turtles of one specific colour i.e. a specific frequency. All your children should wear the same colour Turtle.

Q: How long has Safety Turtle been on the market?
A: Safety Turtle has been on the market in the U.S.A. and Canada since 1998. In recent years it has achieved worldwide distribution. It is a proven and reliable product that complies with strict international standards.

Q: Where does Safety Turtle come from?
A: Safety Turtle is a Canadian invention. It carries a worldwide patent, and every unit sold by Safety Turtle Africa (Pty) Ltd is imported under exclusive licence from the parent company, Terrapin Communications, in Canada.

Q: We are going to Europe on holiday. Can we take our Safety Turtle with us?
A: Yes, definitely. The Europlug, which is the one supplied in S.A., is de facto 230 VAC standard worldwide. Even where outlets are UK style, plug adaptors to accept Europlug are easy to get.

Q: And in Australia?
A: Exception is Australia/NZ/Argentina. For some reason, only Australia style is "legal". Anyone travelling there should get a plug adaptor in advance.
See: http://www.iec.ch/zone/plugsocket/ for complete lists by continent.

Q: What about in the United States?
A:

A: One will need a 120 VAC to 240 VAC transformer, not just a plug adaptor. One can also purchase a North American AC Adaptor for Safety Turtle directly from Terrapin in Canada on arrival @ $13.35 US + shipping.
