"TROUBLE-SHOOTING"

There are only 3 modes in which the BASE STATION will beep or alarm.
  1. Alarm Mode – Base Station makes a loud alarm sound – Turtle immersed in water.
  2. Test Mode – Base Station makes a slow beeping sound – Turtle immersed in water when Base Station is in Test Mode.
  3. Fault Mode – Base Station makes a rapid beeping sound – coding plug not recognized or interference from other devices or line voltage out of limit.
Interrogate fault mode by doing the following:
When the green ON light is flashing, the likely problem can be identified by holding down the moon-shaped button and observing how the Test light reacts.
  1. If the amber Test light remains off, the AC voltage may be too high or too low.
  2. If the amber Test light comes on, the “baby” turtle receptor plug is not shorting two pins, so is not recognized. If this is the problem, remove the “baby” turtle carefully and try straightening the two coding plug contact pins (using a screw driver), check no dirt/grit – and then click the “baby” turtle firmly back into position.
  3. If the amber Test light flashes, the Base Station is faulty or there is strong interference from other communications devices. If this is the problem, try testing at another location.

If the alarm keeps going off, even if the WRISTBANDS are nowhere near water, then the TURTLE has a "memory" of being in water.
We call this "WATERLOGGING".
The problem is reversible if the Turtle is kept dry for a couple of days – on a shelf undisturbed for at least 24 hours.

Sometimes the Turtle on the Wristband can have porridge, sand or “goo” stuck against the sealed, tamper-proof battery - wash out under a tap (cold, not too strong) to dislodge - dry thoroughly.

Here are some tips moving ahead:

  • Never store Turtle in sealed plastic bag or sealed containerAlways remove Wristband before bathing or taking your child into pool
  • If the Base Station is unplugged, the child should not be wearing the Turtle
  • Never test Turtle under a strong tap or pool outlet
  • Avoid unnecessary wetting e.g. hand washing, at least in short term
  • After immersion, immediately absorb water between Turtle shells, which adheres tightly by surface tension, using a cloth or paper towel
  • Remove Wristband from infant or 1 year old sleeping in crib (teething/drooling may not set off alarm, but it can "waterlog" Turtle, making it ultra sensitive and slow to turn off)
  • Avoid unplugging Base Station while it is alarming
  • Blow drying (with heater off) is a last resort, for a waterlogged Turtle
  • Once pool coverage has been tested the first time, subsequently test by immersing or dipping only the end (1/3 to 1/2) of Turtle in water.

A non-waterlogged Turtle fully immersed briefly in still water should be dryable within 5 - 20 seconds max. A little practice should give you confidence, but Turtle first needs to "dry out".

If you have more than one Wristband, the water-logged Turtle can be identified by wrapping suspect Turtle(s) in aluminum foil away from Base Station. If pressing moon-shaped button completely silences alarm, the culprit is wrapped in foil, or has ceased transmitting.  The system can then be used, while the problem Turtle dries inside the foil.
